E76: A tribute to Peter Bonetti

He will always be remembered as The Cat.

It is with huge sadness that we mourn the passing of Peter Bonetti, 78, following a long-term illness.

The ex-Chelsea and England goalkeeper was a pioneer in the sport – former Blues teammate John Hollins claims he was the original sweeper keeper – and transferred his wisdom to up and coming stoppers after his playing days were done.

One of those was our very own Richard Lee, who recalls his first-ever goalkeeping coach in this tribute podcast.

We also hear from Clayton Beerman of the Chelsea FanCast and offer up some analysis from the 1970 World Cup Quarter Final between England and West Germany – a game where Bonetti won one of seven caps for his country.
