Goalkeeper’s Cut: Peter Schmeichel

peter schmeichel podcast

Everything comes to he/she who waits.

It would be foolish of us to suggest that, since launching this very podcast back in the summer of 2018, our primary goal wasn’t to conduct an interview with one of the greatest goalkeepers the world has ever seen.

Because it was. And now it has happened. And we could not be more thrilled with the outcome.

Peter Schmeichel was and still remains an iconic figure in the world of goalkeeping. From the moment he arrived on English shores in 1991, formative years of many an aspiring goalkeeper were spent watching, learning and hoping to achieve a fraction of the ability he demonstrated in his eight decorated years with Manchester United.

Following the release of his new book One: My Autobiography, we decided to take a relaxed approach to our chat with The Great Dane. The result was a discussion on, among a host of topics, what made him tick, how he abolished any thought of nerves in his first professional outing at Brondby (and subsequently never entertained them again) and that Schmeichel spread.

Right, Seaman next. Fancy it, Dave?
