between the sticks #115

“Best save I’ve seen for years by Ramsdale.”

When non-prolific tweeter Peter Schmeichel takes time to recognise a save you’ve just made, you know you’ve just made, well, one of the best saves seen for years.

Aaron Ramsdale may have wrapped up the Save of the Season award as early as October with his salmon-like leap to paw out James Maddison’s free-kick in Arsenal’s big win at Leicester. He’s also rapidly becoming the main topic of every Between the Sticks since replacing Bernd Leno as The Gunners’ No1.

Another replacement, Alvara Fernandez, didn’t have the most welcome of Premier League introductions with Brentford soundly beaten by Burnley. We examine just how crucial David Raya’s five months out could be to The Bees.

Commentary Corner focuses on a slightly confusing “two bounce” summation courtesy of Jamie Redknapp and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as Emi Martinez conceded twice at the hands of West Ham.

Over in the Championship, Dan Iversen remains as solid as ever on loan at Preston, Robin Olsen beat the system to claw away a horribly classic inswinging free-kick and Daniel Grimshaw, currently in for the injured Chris Maxwell at Blackpool, bagged an assist in a massive win away to Sheffield United.
