Every so often, Twitter throws up the opportunity for a random member of the public to have a little back and forth with a footballer.
Sometimes it’s harmless fun. Sometimes it can escalate (see Curtis Woodhouse and the doorstep drop of 2013).
In the case of Don Hutchison (yes, that is Don Hutchison of ex-Liverpool, West Ham and Sunderland fame) it can centre around the rather dubious goalkeeping “analysis” we’ve grown accustomed to in recent times. Yes, we do mean you, mate.
This week, we touch on why Mr Hutchison was so aghast at World Cup and now Nations League winner Hugo Lloris in France’s semi-final triumph over Belgium.
And with it being international fixtures, we celebrate (sound the klaxon) goalkeeper assists for Sam Johnstone and Robin Olsen in England and Sweden’s wins over Andorra and Greece respectively. There’s also a shout out for Lukasz Fabianski, who drew the curtain on his 15-year, 57-cap Poland career with a clean sheet against San Marino.
Lastly, Lewis Ward in back between the sticks. The 24-year-old made a match-winning debut for Swindon as they beat Forest Green Rovers away from home, so we take a closer look at the multiple saves made in that one.
