Pledge your allegiance to The Goalkeepers' Union

Those familiar with GKU will know we’ve been beavering away for nearly two years in a bid to bring you top goalkeeper interviews and analysis.

To make it clear, we categorically intend to continue creating such content.

However, as a small (albeit ever-growing) online publisher, producing that content on a weekly basis has become increasingly difficult on a shoestring budget.

The recent COVID19 pandemic has affected a number of SMEs and, admittedly, we are one.

It’s been a time to recalibrate. And, for GKU, attention has been switched to creating something bigger. If you like what we do and want to see, hear and read more, our vision can be realised with your support.

As of June 2020, we’ve switched our primary content over to Patreon. That means no ads, no ad-blockers, no pop-ups and, ultimately, no faff. Just pure goalkeeping in the form of more podcasts, more features and more Instagram Live interaction.

We’ll also be producing audiobooks on goalkeeping mindset and dropping in a few incentives along the way. And to make things simple, we’ve tiered the options:

  • For ad-free and extra premium podcasts only accessible via Patreon, it’s £3 per month
  • For the above, the video version of our Between The Sticks analysis podcast, a monthly audiobook, full access to GKUTV on Instagram and glove discounts, it’s £6 per month
  • And for everything in the previous two tiers, plus access to weekly at-home goalkeeper workouts, weekly mindset and psyche chats, goalkeeping yoga and more, it’s £12 per month

We love what we do. And we want to create a product for you, The Goalkeepers’ Union.

Please bear with us as we build in-flight and rest assured that the requirements of our patrons are at the heart of everything we create.

If you’d like to contribute to GKU and help to build the community, have a quick read of the FAQs below and, hopefully, we’ll see you over at Patreon.

For anything you’re unclear on, or if you have any further questions you’d like to discuss, please do contact us directly on hello@goalkeepersunion.net.

FAQ

As stated on their website, Patreon “powers membership businesses for creators by giving them the tools they need to acquire, manage, and energise their paying patrons”.

Basically, it’s a membership platform which makes life a little easier for creators such as GKU. Patreon deal with the semantics (security, privacy, hosting etc), allowing us to focus purely on creating and posting regular content for our patrons.

The subscription-based model gives patrons the opportunity to choose what they wish to pay creators in return for exclusive access, bonus content and a more personal touch.

It is all relatively straightforward.

Simply visit patreon.com/goalkeepersunion and select BECOME A PATRON

Choose which tier you’d like to start with (NB: there is an option to pledge less than the tier amount, but access to that tier will be restricted due to Patreon’s operating system)

Pay securely with via debit/credit card or a Paypal account

Job done. You are now an official Goalkeepers’ Union Patron. Let the journey begin.

Absolutely not.

If after one month you decide this isn’t for you, you can cancel your monthly payment with immediate effect. If you then decide further down the line you’d like to rejoin us, you can simply set it back up again.

No commitment. No obligation. It’s entirely up to you.

Everything we produce will be available patreon.com/goalkeepersunion/posts. You need to be logged into your Patreon account in order to access podcasts, articles and more.

If you’d like to be notified of new content as and when it is posted, you can choose to turn on notifications in your email preferences. An email alert will arrive once we post.

There is also a Patreon app for iOS and Android which, when logged in, shows you all the content you’re subscribed to. Download the app for your device below:

Patreon on Android :: Patreon on iOS

Yes. But you just need to follow these simple steps first.

When you become a GKU Patron, you’ll receive a unique, individual URL which allows you to access the podcasts.

To access the URL, go to patreon.com/goalkeepersunion/overview and on the right you’ll see a window with your personal URL:

Copy the link in the box and then add it to your podcast app. The method may vary depending on your preferred app, so look for options such as:

  • ADD PODCAST MANUALLY
  • ADD RSS FEED
  • SUBSCRIBE TO PODCAST VIA FEED
  • ADD FEED
  • ADD PODCAST BY URL

Once the Patreon link has been copied and changes have been saved, you’ll be fully subscribed. Thereafter, all new episodes will appear as with any other podcast.

QUICK NOTE: It is crucial you do not share this URL with anyone else. Multiple users will be detected by Patreon who will block that feed’s access to the content.

We’d recommend Overcast for iOS and Podcast Addict for Android.

Currently there are compatibility issues with apps like Stitcher and Acast.

We can.

All businesses in Europe have to charge VAT on goods and services, including digital services.

VAT is charged at your local rate. If you’re in Ireland, it’s 23%, in the UK it’s 20%, Germany 19% and so on.

If you’re from outside the EU, the VAT charge does not apply.

Payments are taken on the first of every month.

Cancel? What?! No!

Just kidding. To cancel, you need to do the following:

  1. Log into your Patreon account.
  2. In the top right, choose “My pledges” from the drop-down menu.
  3. To the right of Goalkeepers’ Union, choose “edit pledge or shipping address”.
  4. Choose “delete pledge”.

And that shall be that. Hopefully we’ll see you return, but, for now, it has been nothing but a pleasure.

Not a problem. We’re always here to help.

Patreon offer support to all users via their helpdesk, so you might find the answer there first.

Just click right here.

Failing that, drop us an email whenever you like on hello@goalkeepersunion.net or @GKUnion on Twitter.
